Giving
Up On Colin?
Thanks for a
great
maSazine. After
keeping
up
with Colin Edwards
throughout his
Superbike career,
I don't think he
will ever
get
it together in lYotoGP
I
don't
know
whar
ir is
-
maybe the high
(ornering
speeds that the
250
guys
are used
to
-
who
knows? I'd love to see him upfront, but
I
just
don't
think this
is
Soing

Not Stoked on
Mammoth Sign
Ups
I fek compelled to
write in because of my
extrerne disappointment
over this
year's re8-
istration
process
for the Mammoth
Motocross
event.
Las
year's
dovrnloading
and faxirE in of
the application were bad
enough, but
this
year's online
process
was worse.
I
did all
the
proper
online
setting up of
my XBUX account and
was online at
7:54
a.m-
ready to register. I entered
in
all the
appropriate
information, and double-
checked it, then clicked
checkout and
pay.
I
was then kicked out of the system
with an
error
that read Oops
system eror and had to
start again.
This happened several
more times
before
lcalled in to
Mammoth Motocross
and was told,
"Oh,
well, too bad but
the
class is most likely full."
I could understand if I made an error
in
the application
process.
but that was not the
case. So, because
of a faulty system, I am
forced to
miss the event-
My family and I are
truly disappointed
in that this
has always
been a family event and
vacatron for us.
Unfortunately,
through mismanagement
on behalf of
the Mammoth MX by choosrng
a
faLrlty s/stem, ours,
and I'm sure many
other
families, are in the same
boat.
Way to
go

Okay
so how
can the
"Premier
Speedway"
offer its
patrons
so liftle?
ls it too much to
ask
for more than
one
grandstand?
There
sure were a lot of
people
milling about with
nowhere to sit.
I can'r believe that California
Speedway
has removed the
grandstand that
used to be
in turns 12 throu3h
15 and
iust
let
people peep
through the fence, all
the
while reminding us
(hat
NASCAR is coming
back
in
September.
Why
not
utilize the
portable grandstands
like were
used for Supermoto, and
place
them accordingly
throughout the
infield so
the
guests can enjoy the race from many
viewing
points instead of lhe one l've sat
in
since 2002?
The only
place
that was
worse than this
was
las Vegas. But the
racing was awesome
nonetheless.

What
ls What?
While watching the Supercross
finale from
tas VeSas with a football fan, I
was asked
"What
is with the two titles
- AMA
Supercross
Championship and Fl14
World
Supercross Championship?"
My answer
was,
"The
FlM, along with
some big sponsors and a
media company,
is
basically
gettin8
ready to
rip ofl the whole
series from the AMA The AMA sort
of
deserves
it, since it is
iust
another
bloated
organization that does little for the ride6.
The
FIM
is
iust
like FIFA in soccei
FIS in skiing, etc.
They
are
in it for the monef TheI see what
Supercross
has
becorne
and smell
the rnoney."
lYy football-fan
friend was confused. To
funher simplifo
it, I
said:
"View
the
World
Supercross title
as winning the combination
of the football
preseason,
and
the season.
View the AMA Supercrosstitle
as winninSthe
football season and the Super Bowl."
Am
I wrong? When will
AMA be elimi-
natedl
.lust
get
the top three to
race the
"other"
series,
and AF'IA will be
toast.
By the way. Chad Reed was
finally a man
on the
podium.
He did not
look like he lost
his sheep and did not make excuses or com-
plain.
He acknowledged
that the other
guys
were faster
Now I am a Chad Reed fan!

Wanting
Lappers
I was not a
AMA
basher
until now.
What
should
have been the most exciting
Supercross
race
of
all time was not.
To the
casuat
fan it may have looked like a close
race. but at the
riders meeting, the
Al'4A
decided that
lapped racers were not to come
into
play
in the championship-deciding
race-
So why did
they even risk the holeshotl
They should have
just
let Ricky Carmichael,
Bubba Stewart
and Chad
Reed race. Any
one
good
enough to
qualify
for a
Supercross doesn't
need a
fla8 to tell them
to move over. These
guys
are also
racing for
their
livelihood.
lf
you're
in leadinS,
part
of racing
is deal-
ing with
l+pers. That's the
risk leaders take.
I have never seen so many move-over
flags
in my
life. I know in the
previous
rounds
they
did not have that many flags, and
if I
remember correctly,
one of the
most excit-
ing races
was when Stewart
got
caught up
with lappers Carmichael
passed him only to
be re-passed.
That was exciting. lnstead, the
Las
Vegas race was Stewart
holeshotting,
Carmichael
second and Reed third,
Then
everybody else
moved over because
the
Af4A said so. Thank,
AMA, for taking one
of the exciting elements out of the
race.
