Gt\r/est rield sUPERCROSs Round a April 29, 2006 AmCd Mobile AMA 5X Litcs Wcst€Pn Regional Supercross Series He got going again in lfth and could never really get a charge going and would end up eighth and second in rhe champi- onship. "l got up and tried to ride the best I could," said Short. Langston said that he never really knew where Short was for much of the race, but he had an idea. "l don't rhink the team wanted me to know too early where Andrew was,'' Langston said. "But Isaw him go down, because he was right next to me going into that tum, so I kind of figured that he may have lost a litth bir of ground. Then, on the white-flag [ap], when I came past the mechaniG' area, they put on the board that Short was in ninth, and that was a nice reliel Fortr-rnately, I had a decent enough lead that I pretty much rolled around the track. I nwer even really had one close moment of goinS down: I feh like I w-as in control the wMe time, realt rode pretty comfortable." As could be expected, Langston \Mas drrilled to record his fourth maior I 25/ Lites- class championship of his career and become one of iust three riders (ioining James Stewan and Emetto Fonseca) to win titles in both the East and West Lites classes. "Tonight really wa5 a dream come true, and to win in the mud was even more of an accomplishment for me," Langston said. ''l iust had a feeling that it would fall in place this weekend." After having won a 125 World title, an AMA 125 outdoor title, the 125 East SX thle and now the Lites west SX title, Langston feels that his run in the Lites class is now complete, and that he will eventu- ally move up to the 450 class for good. "Wlat is really cool about this [title] is... I feel like it just completed everything that I would love to have accomplished in the Lites, and now I'm lookinS forward to movinS up and racing the 450.'' Short was gracious in deleat. "l'd be lying if I said that I wasn't disap- pointed," Shon sard. "But I did everything that I could possibly do, so I can at least go to bed knowing that. I think I rode good but got some bad break. Br.rr Grant is a great rider, and it's nice to know that I didn't lose the title to someone who was- n't deserving of it." Geftingon lhe podium for the first time was Rockstar Suzuki's )ason Lawrence, rn third. Lawrence, who hails from New Jersey and is no stranger to the mud, came from way back to challenge Villopoto for second place right at the end. Had there been one more lap, Lawrence just might have gotten the Kawasaki rider. "l'm stoked to be on the podium," Lawrence said. "l'm glad to be here. lt took a while, but l'm so pumped, all the doubters and stuff, l'm iust stoked that I'm here - it's bod.'' Lawrence described his race: "lgot one of my stars, which was about lzth or I3th. A few guys were behind me. I could- n't get through the first rhythm section very good and wasn't doing any of the iumps. After that, there was a crash and I was stuck in the corner I didnt really feel like I was Soing to get up here [on the podi- um], but I was iust going to ride all the way to the end. l4y mechanic, Chad - like about the fifth lap - it said fourth on the board, riSht after lNathan] Ramsey fell, and lBrett] Metcalfe was right in front of me, so I just charged, hoping I would get on the podium. Towards the end of the race, I saw Ryan [Villopoto] in front of me. I looked on the board and saw that he was in second and charged trying to get him. lt came down to the wire, but I iust ran out of time." Other than inadvertently dropping an "F" bomb on the podium, the night went quite well for the l9-year-old. Breft Metcalfe, on the Boost Mobile/ Yamaha of Troy Y225Of, had a strong race, ending up fourth after starting off in loth, while Alessi rounded out the top five overall.
