Happ€nings in M otorcucl ing Saving Lives The Racing WaU Miller Motorsports Park played host to Eric Bostrom's Racing 2 Save Lives charity event this past weekend, April I 3- 16. The event was a huge success, raisinS a whopping $65,000 for children's charities, nearly doubling their amount from the previous year. To collect money, riders gathered donations in exchange for track time over the course of the four-day event. Over 350 riders participated, runhing simultaneous- ly on both the east and west tracks for four days straight. Joining the riders at the track all four days were Eric and hi5 brother Ben Bostrom, while Eric's factory Yamaha teammate, Jason DiSalvo, was able to make it out on the final day, adding to the star power of the event. Both Ben and Eric gave several two-up rides, while R2SL instructors helped over ?00 new riders get on track for the first time, But the fan favorite had to be Vincent Haskovec, who made his first solo trip out of California since being para- lyzed in flay of last year. Even more money was raised through on online auction. "One unique feature we had this year was an online auction with Ben and Eric," said event creator Sharon Fox- worthy. "Eight luch/ auction winners got one-on-one track instruction from the Bostroms. Both brothers were really enthusiastic about giving the lesson, and let's just say ever)'One got their mOneY'S worth " Sharon and Stan Foxworthy, along with friends Tony Baker, and Ralph Forsythe came up with the idea three /ears ago as a way to give back to children's charities while having a good time and riding motorcycles, "We all are motorcycle enthusiass, and a couple of us are racers, and we were thinking, 'What can we do with what we love that would create a positive way to support our community and. specifically. help children?' " Sharon said- "We put together some ideas, and in a little over three months we were riding at Pikes Peak." Typically, it takes several years for a charity to start mak- ing money, but R2SL was giving back right from the Eet go. ''We were able to give money the very first year, which was so awesome," Foxlonhy recalled. "Believe it or not, when we did it the lirst year at Pikes Peak, it rained- Yet, we still made $21,000. So we thought, 'Woq if we can make it work this well with less than perfect weather, let's keep this going and see how it does with Eood weather' Since then, we have doubled the amount we've donated each year." So where did all the money go? "$30,000 this year went to Larry Miller's charity, which divides money up between several different children's charities, and we also gave to three Colorado-area chari- ties: the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Here's Life lnner City Denve; which deals with at-risk kids coming out of bad homes, and Family Pathways, which deals with severely (Abovel Rocing 2 Sove Livcg foundcr Shoron Foxworthy ir flonkcd by Eric Bo.lrom on her right drrd Vin(ent Hoskovec on her left during the I t a t t T .3 I \.-.
