However, on laP nine, Stewart landed on a Tuf-Block and crashed. He, too, kicked several times before the four-stroke lit. but he didn't drop back nearly as far as Carmichael had, rejoining the race in sixth position. "Heath Voss was in front of me, and I didn't know which way he was going to go," Stewart said. ''l kind of bottomed my forks out, and at turned on me going off the face [of the jump], and I jumped on rhe hay bales, I was trying my best to recover, and I was thinkinS I didn't want St. Louis all over again.'' Reed must have felt as though the Supercross gods were on his side, as he suddenly inherited a l5-second lead over Wey, Tedesco and Byrne, who were probably too busy battlinS among them- selves to even no(ice who was leadinS. "l just felt tonight, something was going to go down, I don't know why," Reed said. "l saw Ricky exit left, and I am glad that lactually messed the turn uP before that, or he could have took me with him. After [Stewart went down], it was actually a pretty tough race for me. I felt like crap, and I was just out there rid- ing. I was watching lames, and I was kind of happy the race was over," Both Carmichael and Stewart battled to the end in an aftemPt to salv-age as many points as possible, with Stewart managing to move back into second by the 20th lap, some eight seconds behind Reed, while Carmichael salvaged a sixth on a badly bent bike. ln the meantime, Wey topped the bat- tle for third place, making this his third podium finish of the year. ''l kind ofgot a gift with Ricky crashing," Wey said. "lt's unusual for him to miss a podium, but I rode as hard as I could A break went my way, and I cotrldn't be more pumped for my team. I got a Sood start and made some passes ar the begin- ning, and I just put my head down. I felt pretty smooth in the whooPs that Ricky crashed in, so I think tha! that might have been a little bit of a difference for me.'' Tedesco llnished fourth, about rhree seconds behind Wey. ''l just srruSgled in the whoops," Tedesco said- "Those were really gnarly whoops, and I had a bad line at the beginninS, and Reed and Wey got by me. I feh I picked it up by midrace and caught back up to Wey, but I made some mistakes. Wey rode good tonight, 50 I am happy with fourth." Byrne was not so happy with flfth. "l didn't get a great start, but I 8ot riSht through behind Nick and lvan, and I felt like I had their speed, so I thought I would sit there for a while and then try and make a charge," Byrne said. "But lvan made a few mistakes in front of me, and when he made a mistake, lwould have to slow down, and it kind of iust messed up my rhythm. lt's a lesson learned. I should have just went for it from the start and got by as fast as I could, instead of waitin8."
