Already with a handy
points
lead in the
lYXl
World
Championship,
it is looking
more and more
likely that Stefan Everts'
last season on the GP scene will be a
good
one,
He's already won nine
major
lnternational
races this
year,
including
the first two GPs.
We
caught
up with the
World
champ before
this week's GP in
Ponugal.

results
and
also trying to enioy my last
season, but it
goes
so
quick.
The week-
ends
are flying by;
you
work weekend by
weekend and when this weekend
is fin-
ished,
you're
already
thinking about the
next weekend
and the next race. I have
a
good
feeling that everything
is
going
well, I'm also
having
dimcult
times; after
Zolder,
it really took some time to
recover, my body needs more
time now.
It's nor all the time
perfect,
but
in
gener-
al,
l'm
pretty
happy.

For
sure,
I don't want
another season
like 1998 where it was
iust
me and Tonelli, I think for the cham-
pionship,
it's not
good. Last
year,
we had
good
races, me or
[Mickael]
Pichon, or
Ben
ffownleyl,
or
[.losh]
Coppins were
winning,
This
year
if it stays like this,
where Tortelli and I lapped
many of the
field,
it will be a
pity.
I don't think
it will
stay the same, I think those other
guys
are not so
fit, and Zolder was
really a
tough
circuit. You really had to work
hard on the
weekend and the
younger
guys
need to be
fitter - but on easier cir-
cuis, they will be better
