For most of these guys, they have raced on these tracks already, so they know what to expect. Everything is new to me, so I learn at every round. one thing about today that was fun was that I love to chase people down. and I 8ot to do that. Gefting out front with a big lead is okay, but whar is really fun is tracking them down and passing guys and for the win. And a bad stan didnt helP, either. "l didn t 8et the best jump and was around I 2th after the flrst corner," lhe Kawasaki Team Green rider said. "l made some passes, and by the end of the first lap I was around ninth. I \ /as tn/'n8 way too hard and making too many mistakes. After anorher laP or t!vo, I w3s still struStling and ridinE ti8ht. I re-ally don't know why, but I was pretty PUmPed uP. I actually went down tlvice in rhe lirst 30 minutes ofthe race- Both times, I just lost my front end in some rocls- I made my first pit stop around the 4s-minute mark- After my Pit, I started to feel a little better, bur I still wasn't ridinS as aSSressive as I would've liked. At this Point, I was in sev_ enth. Not too much happened for the next 45 minutes Then ! stopped for my last prr stop. Now I had about 30 minutes left in the race and just rode a good Pace The way I was feelinS today, I didn't want to let at hang out and hurt myself before next weekend's hare and hound race. I still fe€l good about the way I'm ridinS, and I wasn t that far off some of the guys in front of me. I just need to stop making so many mistakes and get bet_ 4 Russ Pearson 8th Place Russ Pearson corjldn't paday agood start into a podiurn finish, but he did survive a couPle of iffy situations to score an eighth-place finish- "l was second, ritht behind Garrison," Pearson said ofthe start. I passed Dertry [Abbott] back when he Pifted early. Then I pitted and he got back by, I actually started flowing and cauSht riSht on the rear tire of Destry and we headed up the hill... I pinned [it] and it was a lot rougher now. and I didn'r line it uP Perfect and whom! I cased it pretry rough, and the bad thinS was. sploshl rhe sweat on my goggles went ali over my lens. Everything was blurr/ now as I did my besr iust to stay on the course.
