Trials Championship.
With rhe riderc
(omplaining
that the sections were
somewhat easy, the mdn thing to do in order to be
successful in this trial was to maintaan concentmtion
and keep mistakes
(o
a minimum. Ar
it
turns out,
Fuiinami did
just
that.
"This
is an
incredible
and
quite
unexpected
victory
bolh
for me
and
the team," Fujinami said.
"My
main
obiective
during the opening two rounds was to
get
some
points.
as I knew I would be riding with a badly
iniured fin8er in both competitions. Sixth last week
was
a
good
result, so I came here thinking that with
the easier sections maybe I could finish on the
podium.
I never expected to win, so I really want to say thanks
to
my team and to my docton"
The competition started under
good
weather con-
ditions, and it was soon evident that the sections
wouldn\ be a bi8 worry to the top riders- Toni Bou,
the winner of round one, fived section five and Douge
Lampkin did the same in sections eight and
15. Thus,
the
fi8h( for
the
lead
was between
Fuiinam', re'tnint
World
Champion
Adarn Rata and Albert Cabestany -
with all of them collectin8
''cleans '
and
"dabs,"
At the turnint point, Fujinamitumed in a card with
only
two points, Raga had three more and Cabestany's
scofe w;rs a seven-
On the second
lap, Fuiinami showed a strong mind
and scored well atain
with
iust
five points in total. Rata
made one mistake
less,
but
it wasn't
enough
to
take
victory from the 2004
World Champion. Sherco's
Cabestany,
meanwhile, had a nithtmare of a loop with
four fives. That
tave
third place to Lampkin, and
Cabestany slid all the way back to sixth. Bou was fourth
with
Jeroni
Fdardo fifth on his Ga5 Gas,
With
two rounds complete, Raga
is
the new leader
of the championship over Bou, 34-33,
Fuiinami ir
third
with 30
points.
