Thou8h round one was one of the earliest events on the AMA District 6 cai- endar, rider turnout was excellent. The Yentzers, promoters of Doublin Gap, completely redesiSned the facility. A new llnish line and stagins area was created, alont with new spectator platforms, and the racecourse atselt was completely redesiAned, with all new obstacles. Alio, lhe direction of travel is the reverse of the previous course layout, The facility also now boasts a beginner track and a new off road ridinS area. There wa5 practice on Friday afternoon, a warmup race on Saturday, and round one of the Northeast Classic MX Series on Sunday. Youns Honda pilot Phil Nicolelti, one of the fasten 'rp-and-coming Amateur riders on the East Coan, moved up ro the exrremely comperirive ProlExpert class and basically spanked 'em. Nicoletti made it look easy in the Lites class, riding to a perfect l-l score. He didn't have things quite so €nsy in the 250cc class. Nicoletti led the start of the first 250cc Pro/Expert moto, with Ty Wallace, Casey Clark, Nicholas Evennou and Kevin Brodsky rn tow. Ni.oletti pull€d away to a five-second advanage by the start of lap two. Clark moved up to second, and Evennou passed wallace for third. Then \rr'illiam Duffy passed Brodsky and Wallace to take fourth. Wallace and Brodsky were releSated to fifth and sixth. Nicoletti increased his tead to six seconds on lap (hree. Evennou stalled his thumper in the first tum. Duft and Brodsky advanced to third and fourth. Evennou finally.elit his Honda thumper and re-entered the race in fifth but pulled out of the moto on the followinS lap. Nicoletti took the checkered flag with a Ilve- second lead. Clark, Duffy, Brodsky and Wallace completed the top five. Evennou, Clark, Barry Carsten and Duffy led the stan of the linal 250 Pro/Exp€rt moto. Nicolefti w35 mired midpack after a poor start but was quickly passang riders on his way toward the front. The runninS ord€r at the start of lap two v/as Evennou, Brodsk, Duffy, Carsten and Derrick Wile- Clark dropped back to sixth and was feeling some pressure from Nicoletti. F4eanwhile. Evennou, in the point position, had a three-second cushion on Brodsky. Duffy and Carsten held third and fourth, and Ni.oletti inherited fifth when Wile endowed near the end of lap three. The top Iive spots were still up for grab! when the white fla8 llew Evennou manated to hold the point and 8et the win, but only by a bikelength over Brodsh/. Duf inished a close third. Ni.oletti passed Carsten on the last lap. takin8 Iourth- Carsten finished ffth. Nicoletti (14) topped the podium. Brodslsr (4-2) earned second, and Dufry dosed out the podium with a consistent 3-3 score.
