And for the second st.aighr week, series points leader Ricky Carmichael was unable to do anything about it. This week, actuallx Carmichael had more to worry about than iust Stewart. He had to fight his , way past a reiuvenated and persistent Chad Reed not once but lwice during the 20-lap main event in order to finish second. 'iAs far as second place Eoes, I'm a liftle disap- pointed in my starts, and I'm going to have to work on those," Carmichael said. "l put myself into a bunch of positions that I didn't want to be in. I have no one to blame but mysell and it's frustrating. ''l'fn not in conservative mode." Carmichael said. "l iust want to go out and race for the lead: that's all we want to do. lf you win races, then the championships come. We're in good position for the AMA title, bur not so good position for the World title." Stewan was obviously happy with the win. I' I a, 7 D st his fifth of the year in the AMA series (and his seventh. counting World GPs). which solidi- fied his status as heir apparent to Carmichaels throne, but it was perhaps more of a moral victory than an),thin8, a5 he still trails Carmichael in the standings by 20 points with iust four rounds remaining in the series.
