managers
and the
press. And that is exactly what
Carmichael,
Reed and Stewan did.
Carmichael
and
Stewart
were
paired up in the
first heat race and squared
off
in what would
surely be a
preview
of the
main event.
During
practice,
Carmichael
had
led the way,

that
is, until the
final lap of
the session, when Stewart
laid
down a blazing-
fast lap after opening
up a new
line through the
rhythm
section,
Stewaft
carried that speed
into the
first heat race,
where
he used
it
to
run down
and
Pass
Carmichael
to
take
the win
in what turned out to
be a fairly
mistake-
filled
race for both riders.

Team
Blackfoot Honda of Canada
had
two
of its rac€ bikes stolen in lndy,
but
the team
wa5 able to continue racinE
wirh
a little help from
Team BooKoo Honda.
''Sometime
between
2 a.m. and 5 a.m.
Fflday morning, someone
broke in!o our
trailer at the hotel
and stole
our race
bikes."
Team Blackfoot transport
coordi-
nator Tony Zalvyrucha
said.
"we had
enouth spare
parls
to build a bike
for one
of our riders, Dusly
Klatt. and the
Suys
at
BooKoo Pacing loaned
us a bike
Ior Mitch
Cooke to ride. lt was a downer
for the
team,
but we
pulled
together
and kept
8oint."
BooKoo Honda's Steve Boniface will
miss the rest of
the supercross season
and
possibly
some of the
outdoor season
after breakinS
his shoulder
blade last
week
in Atlanta.
"He
wants
to run the
outdoor season
and be competitive,
so I
rhink
he will be out for a
while
iust
to
make sure
he is healthy
and
tets
back in
shape." Team BooKoo
Honda's
Lucky
Nichols said.
"Meanwhile,
the team
is
going to concentrate on David
Vuillemin
and
try to
8et
that
part
of the
program
back where
we think it should be.
David
started the season
on the two-stroke,
and after
a couple of races it
was
painfully
obvious
that that wasn't the way we
needed to
go, so we are behind on the
four-stoke.
David actually took to lhe
Honda four-stroke
pretty
well. ln the
last
two weeks,
he has
just
had some
prelty
bad
luck,
but
we are real happy with
the
effort
David
is
Siving
us on the four-
stroke."
Arenacross star Shane
Bess vvas
in lndy,
hoping to fill in for
losh
Woods on the
Rockstar Suzuki Team.
Woods was out
sick
for the week, freeing up
one of the
bikes.
However. the appropriate
paper-
work wasn't
taken care o(, and Bess
watched from
the sidelines.
