Schwantzts
Second
Chance
ra Suzuki's Kevin
Schwantz should've
had the 1987
Daytona 200
in the ba8.
"l
think I did," Schwantz
says.
"Of cou6e,
Wayne
[Rainey]
witl tell
you
otherwise-"
Whatever
the reason,
after thoroughly
dominating the late stages
of the
'87
race,
Schwantz
wound up
crashing and breaking his wrist
rather than
crossing
the finish line firct.
"On
lap 34 I was
either I I or 12
seconds out front,"
Schwantz
recalls.
"We
had done
our firsr
pit
stop, and
we were coming
up on our second
pit
stop
when I
got
off in the
chicane and tried
to snake
past
a
guy.
About
that time he changed
direction, and I
got
off into the hay
bales
and fell down."
