Clayton has named Bob NorVelle as publisher, effecrive immediately. Otis Chandler, who served as the pub- lisher of the Los Angeles frmes from 1950 to 1980, and who is well known among classic automobile and motorcycle enthusi- asts for his Chandler Collection of morE than 80 classic cars and motorcycles in Oxnard, California, died at his home in Ojai, California, on February 27 after suf- fering from a degenerative illness known as Lewy body disease. He was 78. ''Otis Chandler willgo down as one ofthe most important ligures in newspaper history" said Los Angeles Iimes editor Deen Baquet in a story about Chandler's life on www.latimes.com. "He built a newspaper that was as Sreat as the city it cove6. He set his sights on a goal - making the Iimes one ofthe two or three Sreat American papers - and he pulled it off." Chandler also devoted much of his life to hand-pick- ing the eclectic collection of motorcycles and cars found in his vintage museum in Oxnard. Among the motorcycles, such brands as Ace, Crocker, lverJohnston, lndian, Vincent and Brough are represent- ed, along with more than 80 years' worth of seminal Harley-Davidson models.
