Danny CarwriSht, who won many an indoor event at the arena in the 1970s, recalled the heyday of the old barn durint a tra.kide interview with announcer Ron "Stoney" Stone. Cartwri8ht mentioned the fast company he kept. includint Randy Cleek, Eddie Daley, The Kansas Brothers and many others. Shane Carson, race direcaor for the World Of Outlaws with Dirt Motorsports, was in the front row of ahe bleach€rs, taking it all in. Carson, who raced motorcycles in the arena, won his share of short-track races in the old barn rn the early 1970s. Following the races, Carson was seen in the pir!, congratulating young riders such as lustin Elswick and Austin I'ledrano. Riders from various disciplines were on hand to do battle Saturday night, includinS such championship-caliber motocross riders as Guy Cooper and Brad Roberts, such chahpionship- caliber road racers as Dustin Dominguez and Conner Blevins, and such championship-caliber enduro riders as Chauncey Justick. Added to the mix were a few short-track hotshoes sucn as Joe Duvall, Brandon Cartwright, Bret Sowders and Cartwri8ht took the checkers in the Open Pro SinEIes class, ahead of challenger loe Dwall. lustin Elswick made a comeback from struStlin8 with a broken throttl€ cable at the last round, which handed the points lead to Austin l'1edrano. Elswick fou8ht off Anthony Varano to regain the points lead in the Open A class. Elswick won another hard-fought battle jn rhe 125/250.c A class. Central Motorcycle Road RacinS Asso.iation contender Conner Blevins took the win in the 85cc.lass, spoiling lledrano s p€r'fect score of five wins for the series. Old Pro Jimmy Long, riding the Mike Bridges-prepared Yamaha, prevailed in the 600cc Pro VintaSe contest after a hard tangle in turn one involvinS two other riders. Lont's bike suffered some fiberSlass damage from the rear-end .ollision, but he was able to continue on lor the win. Texan Hunter Watson continued his winning ways, taking a couple of wins on ahe night, in the Pee Wee Aand B classes. Frank Bardaro rode his Triumph to another first-place finish in the Vintage Twin class.
