And rhen his winning heat-race time was I 5 seconds faster than series leader Ricky Carmichael s winnrnS performance in heat two. Stewan had first gate pick for the 20-lap main event, and he seemed like a sure bet to win his third AMA Supercross of the young season and move back into the points lead. How quickly things can change. lnsread of winning, Stewan finished an unimaginable eighrh. fell back to thrrd rn rhe standings and is now l3 poinrs behind Carmichael. who, in front of another sell- out crowd (45,050), rode off wirh his third win of the sefles and hrs second vic- rory of the three Anaheim rounds. Stewart also lost his points lead in the World Supercross GP standings; he's now second, four points behind RC. Joining Team l4akita Suzuki's Carmichael on the podium was runner-up Yamaha's Chad Reed !t !F Carmichael's teammate lvan Tedesco. the latter earning a Sr:oercross-class oodium fi nish for the first time in his career. a Three crashes in the first two laps were Stewart's undoing, His first get-off happened in rhe first turn when he lost the front end of his KX450F and went tumbling to the ground in front of the 20-rider pack. "l came out thinking l had the holeshol the whole way,'' he said. "l was going strong and as soon a! I started to turn the bars, I knew lwas hot, and the front end washed out." Carmichael. who Iined up right next to Srewart on the inside, had a bird's-eye view of Stewan's crash. "l was on the inside of him," Carmichael said. ''l got a really good start, and he closed the door on me iust a little bit.
