This year's first race schedule was set up by Reid Franke, who appointed the Pros and Experts to kick off the new season's first moto. Over 30 Pro Suzuki450 rider lason Larson showed the two clubs the fast way around the track. He quadded into the rhyrhm section, which no other rider attempted. At th€ sta.t, David Fontes w?s in fourth place. paul Kuehnel. ridinS in the Over 30 lnaermediate class, came in hot on the inside. ''l got hit with water and I had no vision," Fontes said. "Kuehnel cross-rutted, and I moved into third, behind Paul Needles. I just clicked away. I knew Needles was a smart rider, but I'd trl ro shy with him and w@r him out and get him at the end. Im a plumber q/ trade, and l've got a La Rocco-sye sreng$." Under Fontes' pressure, Needles fell on lap six after mis- shittinS in the corner. Fontes waired pariently for Needles' bike to be moved out of the way. "l4ike Webb 8ot around us, Fontes said. "Needles and I got around Webb in the chicane. ' Needles pressured Fontes ar the end, but Fontes held on for the moto-one win in rhe Over 45 Pro class. Fontes' 2006 Honda 450 seemed so strongand yer so user,friendly at the same time. ln moto two, Fontes got the holeshot, and he looked over to the right to catch aglimpse of Larson. "l knew he was the fasrer rider," Fontes said, "but lstill led my class for the moto win." Fontes helped out the club by watering the track and announcing before collecring his Pro payback. Over 30 lntermediate-class rider Bernard Daily led his rich, talent-filled class. Daily tripled into the rhythm s€ction but elected not to do the tabletop aftenvard. Curt Eennen kept Daily within view b/ flying hiSh over it. Finol Lop Mogozine co- editor Mike "Sir Smiley" Ryer won moto rwo. David AndeRon won both motos in rhe Over 30 Beginner cla3s. Jon Agnew could not recoup after falling while pressuring Anderson in moto one. Anq/ laviolette showed good, smooth, safe speed while battling w,th a passel of other riders to capture second, over Ryan RanEon. Over l0 Novice rider Brad Huber controtted his 4s0cc Honda p€rfectly to lead his class and the Over 38 Novices around the turns and up rhe hill in moto one. Aaron Lunsford The odds-on favorite in the Over 38 Novice class. l4ark Bellman, won moto on€ hands down. ln moto two, though, Bellman went off into the uphill soft stuff Bellman charged back, but the shon moto allowed ,ohn Lombardo to caprure the overall. Over 38 lntermediate rider Arnie Davis continued his holeshot reign. The long start and long, sweepint Talladega turn gave Dean Adkirc the opportunity to orrtcorner Davis and settle into the lirst spot as the nine riders went up the first of two uphills. After thre€ laps. David DuBois took over the lead, and Richard Aldrich battled through the pack and tripl€d past DuBois for a short stiflt. Craig Mccarley won moto two, after p.essuring and outiumping Ougois in the wind.
