Series points leader Babbitt/Enxus Oil Kawasaki's Josh Demuth suffered his worst per- formance of the season and ended the weekend in Charlotte with a fourth-place finish in the 250 main and a l3th in the 450 main on Friday nighti and he followed that up with a DNF in the 250 main and a l6th in the 450 main on Saturday. Demuth's performance was no doubt affected by an injury suffered during a mountain-bike acci- dent he had while training for the final rounds. However, he still heads Fun Center/Troy Lee Designs/Suzuki-backed Shane Bess by 78 points in the championship chase with only two rounds remaining. On Friday, Lacey grabbed the holeshot then held off the charges of Bess and GPS Racing/Storm Lake Honda's Michael Blose to win the 250 main. ln the 450 main, Babbitt/Enxus Oil Kawasaki's Damien Plotrs led from the srart with GPS/Storm Lake Honda's Brad l'4odjewski behind him, fol- lowed by Tommy Hofmaster on the Sano Systems/PPG Shogun Yamaha, and Demuth. Demuth made his way past Hofmaster and Modiewski inro second place, but tangled with a lapper on lap l0 while batrling with Plotts for the lead. Meanwhile, Lacey managed to work up from a fifth-place start ro overtake both Hofmaster and Modiewski for second at the halfway mark, and then on lap l8 made his move on Plotts to sreal the victory - his second of the night. "l lust tried picking guys off one by one, and before I knew it, I was up on Plotts for the lead," Lacey said. Bess charged to the front of the field aod with- stood Plotts'advances to win Saturday's 250 main event. Plotts ended up with second place, while Sano Systems/PPG/Shogun Motion Yamaha's Colt Humphries took his first podium of rhe year in third place. Bess'win gives him three for the year and brings him to within striking distance of Hofmaster Ior second place in the overall champi- onship points, ln Saturday's 450 main, Lacey once again topped Bess for the win with Brad Hagseth put- ting his Fun Center/TLD/PPG Suzuki on the podi- um in third place.
