I Sellards crept two points closer to Johnson in the title chase, but still trails rhe Wisconsin native by l7 points with ont three rounds remaining on the schedule. Last week's double-€\€nt y/inner in Bahirnore \ /as the "other" Johnson - Tearn Faith's Kevin Johnson - who now sits in third ovErall in the series points standings. Kevin suflered a crash in Friday's main in Guthrie and later packed it in for the evening, but he came back strong on Saturday to claim a second-place finish after gMng up the lead to Sellards with three laps to go in the race. With seven rounds in the book, Chad. who prefers the Y2250 to the four-stroke for indoorc, leads the points standings with 302 points, followed by Sellards with 285 and Kevin lohnson with 252- The Guthrie race features the largen facility on the cir- cuit, and the track lq/out is over twice as big as any other Arenacross event on the AMA circuit. ln fact, the lap tirnes in Guthrie were longer than the ones being tur.ned at the Anaheim ll Supercross on the same weekend. ln Friday's main event, both Sellards and Chad gated well, with rhe Honda rider getting the adyanta€e coming gut ofthe flrst tum. Kevin was running midpack after a poor start, but made up ground quickly in the first few tums. Near the end of the first lap, Sellards overiumped a triple jump in the rhythm section, which caused him to miss his line for the second set of triples. That wa5 iust the openinS Chad needed to make a pass. Sellards hung with Chad for the next three-foufths of the race and pulled even in a couple of sections, but eventually wenr down jn the whoops and from there, concentrated on holding off his teammate leff Nonhrop for second place. ln the meantime, Chad cruised home for the win. "Brock 8ot the jump on me with that big 450." Chad said. 'l nrissed a shift and he got into rhe first turn firsr, but he missed the triple and I got into the lead. He pushed me hard for rhe first l5 laps, bur he ended up going down and thar was it." Team Rock Star Suzuki s Greg Schnell led fcllow Suzuki rider lim Neese to the finish for founh. whrle Kevin packed it in afrer a hard crash. On Saturday, Kevin grabbed the holeshor and led for I5 of the I8 scheduled laps- Chad was stuck rn sixrh place afrer the start, but worked his way up ro third by the midway point.
