Scott Hoffman of Super Molo Rocf/ Mogodne ftn fourth, with Miami's Eddie Ray in fifth and Metzeler's Mike Ullrich sixth, Two laps in, Welsh and Trachy were gapping the rest of the field, while Robe.ts, in third, was under atta.k from Hoffman. Lap four saw Welsh turn his fastest lap at one minute and 4.65 seconds. but this, as good as it was, wasn't allowing him to get clear of Trachy. On lap five. in the right-hander enter- ing the dirt section, Troy Lee's Trachy made his move and took the lead away. However, Axo's welsh, with new deter- mination, \r'as putting in one of the best rides of his career and was coming back at Trachy. Meanwhile, some two seconds back, Hoffman, riding the best we've ever seen, wouldn't let go of Roberts, and Ray had his hands full with Ullrich.
