Pde MX Wnter Chollenge Round 2: Clork Cova?y Fairqrounds Skinner Makes a Glean Cut BAME Gf,OUND, WA, DE€. I I The second round of 6e MX Winrer ChallenSe was once I arain held at the Clark Coung Fair8rounds. while there was a nice tumout and some Sood racin8, there wEs still a slitht damper on things. On the Thu6day before the race, DouSlas Beniamin crashed during a practice session, suffering fatal wounds. Several prayers and speeches were made during the riders'meetin8, and afterward there was a table set up for donations to the Beniamin family. There were so many riders in the Before The Hill C/D class that they were weeded down via a supercross-style format, with qualifiers and a main event. When the 8ate dropped, Ri.hard Ferzacca jumped out into the lead. Ferzacca was soon gefting pressure from up-and-comer Ryan Skinner, and the ttvo began to Eo at it. lap afier lap clicked by, with Skinner hounding Ferzacca. Finalfi Skinn€r iumped by Ferzacca, and Ferzacca tried to swerve back into the lead, only to b€ left stranded on the sofi side of the step-up triple. with FeEacca going of{ the track, it w-.s smooth sailing for Skinner, who went on to take the win. Afrer a mediocre start, Ricky Miranda rode hard to pick up second place. Third \,yent to Stephen Butler, fourth went to Marc O'Braefi. and Ferza..a ended up fifth. Skinner backed up his Before The Hillwin with a wan in the l25cc C class, which, like the Before The Hill class, was split into qualifiers and a main event. From the time the gate dropped, it wEs obvious that Skinner was the man ro beat. Not even fast Honda riders Miranda and Butler could run at his pa€e, and when the checkers flew it was Skinner chalking up another win. Butler took runner-up honors, and Miranda rounded out the podium in third. Cody Hollen took founh, and Kash Leon finished fifth. There was plenq, of a.tion goinS on in the .ombined l25cc and 250cc B contest. ln rhe lirst moto, it was Ched "Smitt/" Smith and Guy Tow iumping out front. The two Kaw.saki riders were clockinS the fastest lap timea of the moto, saalng ahead of Kyle Hehr, Justin Wharton and Ryan Hopson. Lap after lap went by without much action until Wharton slid out while running in fourth, handing the position to Hopson. Tow took the \ /in in the 250cc class. while Smith won the l25cc class. ln the second moto, it was Tow taking the holeshot, with BY JUSI|N WHARToN WATCH n , I 6Ncc 1 **,Mffiui"l Duol Sport -Odo ond spec& -Elopscd/rldirg tlmcrs -4 trip rn€tc.s -spc.d oYemgrcs ovcr distorc. qrd tim. ffi mwl :Dcolers \flelcohe- i f ond Rafiotc t 't lrWATCHDOG1, ,,, ol ] E l ,., , -DL,GAS. - ,,, EN6INEERIN6 ' ., $s35.OO Eng -com fhe lnolo tor rilDg! {ib J .4 & ? ,/ J__, fl TTEl 1 Year/6 lssues-$9.9S 2Yearl12 lssues-$18.00 Ono (6 ilruod, 2rd cla$ C.nid.
