Team Fun Center Troy Lee Designs Suzuki had a great showing in Arizona, as Shane Bess grabbed another victory in the 250 class Saturday night and then finished second to teammate Josh Woods in the 450 main. Woods, however, used his consistent Iinishes to again regain the BooKoo Championship points lead over Team Babbitt's Enxus Kawasaki's Josh Demuth, as the two rivals con[inued to trade wins and the points lead. Demuth took second place to Woods in the 250 class on Friday night and charged back from a midpack start to chase down Woods down and 8et rhe win in the 450 main, keepin8 him in the race for the championship- The "Sheriff" (Demuth), however, iniured his ankle while takinS the check- ered flag Friday night, as he landed on another rider alter the catapult jump. Demuth iced and taped up the ankle and went on to race the rest ofthe week- end, salvaging as many poinB a5 he could. He even managed to post a win in the 450 main Friday ni8ht. However, Saturday's results for Demuth were not irs spectacu- lar, as the championship contender had to settle for a tifth in the 250 main event and a ninth in the 450 main. Tommy Hofmaster continued to show his consistency on his Team Sano Systems PPG Yamaha, as he snagged a pair of fifth- place finishes Friday ni8ht, alonS with a second and a fourth in the 250 and 450 mains, respectively, on Saturday night. Hofmaster held off Woods in the 250 main Saturday to keep him in third place in the championship points race, behind Demuth and in front of Bess. The Motorcycle Mechanics lnstitute, which has a campus in Phoenix, present- ed the Top Tech Award and a $ I 50 check to Broc Sellards for his efforts to get to Phoenix. Sellards is currently se€ond in the AMA Arenacross series, and he iumped the fence this weekend to see if he could take home some of the money that is up for grabs in the Ad\ranstar Series. His efforts paid off Friday night, as he ended the night with the third and rinal podium spot in the 450 main. Sellards pit- ted for himself all weekend and managed tq dice it up with the regulars en route to his podium linkh. Kun Mccabe put his Team GPS tucing Storm Lake Honda on the podium in the 250 main Friday night by holding off a determined Kevin .lohnson, who jumped into the series this weekend to try his luck for the BooKoo bucks. This was McCabe's firct visit to the podium this year but likely won't be his last. Racing wasn't the only action going on inside the Glendale Arena aver the week- end. The track crew was presented with a huge challenge - having to get the track set up and built in iust a few hours. Because of an NHL hockey game, the crew could not start laying down the dirt until Thursday night. The first truckload ofdirt hit the floor about 4:40 a.m. Friday. Working throughout the night and well into the day, the track crew surprised many as they not only completed the track in time for a Friday afternoon practice, but they completed a track that presented some great lines that led to some great racing for the Arizona fans.
