Buriram Circuit Turned Into Refugee Camp
T
he Chang International
Circuit in Buriram, Thailand,
usually the venue that hosts the
country's MotoGP race, has been
converted into an emergency ac-
commodation site as thousands
flee mounting violence along the
Thai-Cambodian border.
According to local authori
-
ties, around 15,000 people from
border-adjacent villages have
been relocated to the circuit
since Sunday, November 7, after
heavy fighting erupted between
Thai and Cambodian forces,
prompting mass evacuations.
The displaced are now shel
-
tering inside grandstands and
paddock areas, many awaiting
further instructions or safe pas
-
sage home.
The circuit's selection as a ref-
uge reflects its size and ability
to accommodate large numbers,
qualities designed for spectators
and teams but now repurposed
for humanitarian shelter.
