Carmichael Honored R icky Carmichael was officially inducted into the Florida Sports Hall of Fame at the Bradenton Area Convention Center on November 19, joining other of the state's sports legends like Tampa Bay Buccaneers all-time touchdown leader Mike Alstott and Hall of Fame MLB manager Jim Leyland. In his 12 years of professional racing in the Supercross and Moto - cross Championships, Carmichael, who was raised in Havana and lives in Tallahassee, compiled the most combined victories (161) and championships (16). "To be inducted into a Hall of Fame is always an honor, very humbling," said the 45-year-old Carmichael, who turns 46 on Thanksgiving Day. "But to do it in the state of Florida—and you are amongst traditional sports' ath - letes, icons of that given discipline sport—it's special." Thank you everyone for the support and love all day." Hunter Lawrence rounded out the podium in third overall. The older Lawrence brother certainly had the pace, but a bad start in race one hindered his night. He fought through the field to finish fifth in race one but rebounded with a strong second to finish off the night. After battling with Aussie veteran Matt Moss for nearly the entire night, Hunter earned the tiebreaker with the better result in race two. Moss and Dylan Wills com - pleted the top five. SX2 points leader Lux Turner crashed out of the night during qualifying, which opened the door for a new face to take the win. Kawasaki's Cole Thomp - son kicked the night off with a win after holding his ground at the front of the field. A win in race one gave him an early advantage, and a third in the final race proved to be enough for the night's overall victory. Defending SX2 champion Shane McElrath finished sec - ond overall with 4-1 results. Poor starts also hindered his night early on, but the Quad Lock Honda rider showed why he's number one in the final main event. A crucial holeshot allowed him to get out of the chaos and ride away with the win. Third overall went to Ya - maha rider Ryder Kingsford, whose 3-2 scores moved him into the championship points lead.
