Lawrence Heroic At AUSX Open Homecoming M arvel Stadium in Melbourne, Australia, hosted the 10th annual Boost Mobile AUSX Open. The event also served as round five of the Australian Supercross Championship and attracted top competi- tors like home country heroes Jett and Hunter Lawrence. Jett won both SX1 main events and took overall victory in front of 30,000 fans, while Cole Thompson claimed the victory in SX2. Jett Lawrence never put a wheel wrong during his time Down Under. The Aus- tralian superstar set the pace during his Superpole lap and qualified first going into the two finals. In the first main event, Lawrence got out front early and quickly sprinted away from the rest of the field to win by more than nine seconds in the 10-lap race. He then repeated in race two to claim a perfect 1-1 sweep of the night's overall win. This marks Lawrence's first AUSX Open win in three attempts. "To finally get it on my third attempt was unreal," said Lawrence. "I'm super stoked to do it in front of the Aussie crowd. I've been here three times and hadn't been able to get a win until now. Third time's the charm, thankfully. The atmosphere was electric, and it honestly made the night feel special. These are the kinds of core memories I'll carry through- out my career. It was awesome." Dean Wilson took second overall with 2-3 finishes. Wilson came into the night leading the points in the Australian SX1 division, and a finish just behind the "Wild Card" Lawrence proved just as good as a win. With two podiums on the night, he further strengthened his hold on the championship lead with one round remaining. "P2 in Melbourne," Wilson said. "It was a pleasure to share the podium with these WIND IN THE P52 Jett Lawrence dominated the AUSX Open in front of his home fans, winning the race for the first time. Cole Thompson was the SX2 overall winner.
