posted the fastest time in the
Superpole lap and proceeded
to go 1-1-1 on the night in an
untouched outing to start the
season. Anstie, who raced for
the GSM Powered By Star Rac
-
ing Yamaha team, is continuing
to recover from a leg injury in the
AMA series and looked strong.
He beat out the defending WSX
champ, Shane McElrath, and
now starts the season on top
with the red plate.
McElrath finished second on
the night. He returned to the
250cc Honda in hopes of land
-
ing on the top step of the box.
Unfortunately for him, he was no
match for Anstie and only found
his way as far up as second in
race two. Third-place finishes
in the other two mains held him
back as he battled for a podium
position. He's eight points back
from Anstie in the series stand
-
ings.
"It was a lot of work tonight,
a lot harder than it should have
been," McElrath said. "We came
in prepared, but we still have
work to do. It was some hard
racing tonight. The track was
technical. There weren't a lot of
lines, and they were slippery."
Coty Schock rounded out
the podium in third overall. The
Rick Ware Racing rider looked
comfortable fighting for a spot
on the box against some of the
more established former race
winners. Schock's 5-5-2 scores
showed improvement through
-
out the night and saw him end
the round with his best finish yet.
The World Supercross Cham-
pionship continues to round two
next weekend, November 15, in
Vancouver, Canada.
