We had coverage of the Baja 1000 in CN 50
years ago, and Carl Cranke was pictured
on the cover. Cranke and teammate Eric
Jensen took the 125cc-class win, and Al
Baker and Gene Cannady took the overall
victory, including four-wheel vehicles.
We also had coverage of the Dirt Diggers Hopetown
Grand Prix, which featured 1400 racers... Mike Bast won the
U.S. Speedway Championships that were held inside the L.A.
Coliseum... Dave Evans won the 140-mile Tonto 100 Enduro in
Arizona.
We celebrated the 100th anniversary of the
motorcycle 40 years ago and pictured a few
historic bikes on the cover, including what
we said was the first motorcycle ever, the 1895
Daimler/Maybach. We highlighted some of
the major milestones in the past 100 years... We had coverage
of the Baby Burr in Ohio and the Delaware National Enduros,
both won by Terry Cunningham... We covered the Motocross
Reunion race in Lommel, Belgium, which included Roger
DeCoster, Heikki Mikkola, Joel Robert and winner Pierre
Karsmakers.
