rider Paola Ramos (YVS Sab-
adell) "winning" and then being
demoted to
fourth place for
irresponsible riding.
In a bizarre twist, the first
attempted running of race one
was stopped almost as soon
as it got underway, after some
problem with the starting proce
-
dure. The race was then cut to
nine
laps duration.
Herrera won the opener for
real, GR Motorsport racer from
England Chloe Jones was sec-
ond and, crucially, title challeng-
er Beatriz Neila was demoted to
third
after losing the lead on her
own account and never quite
getting back into contention.
Her expression in parc ferme
said it all about the severity of
her punishment for such a small
mistake, especially when her
title rival had won the race.
Ramos, the local one-off rider,
won race two for real, and in
some style, finishing almost 10
seconds ahead of all the rest.
Neila was battling away for
second place, and Lucie Boudes
-
seul (GMT94-Yamaha) ended up
third for her second
podium of
the year. A sometimes nervy but
eventually solid final sixth place
for Herrera saw her claim the
title by 245 points to Neila's 240.
After losing out to her arch-she-
enemy Ana Carrasco last year,
the victory must have been all
the sweeter, especially in a sea
-
son which proved tougher than
expected.
