At first, I thought I should apologize to all my fans for not winning the championship, but the uuth is I tried too hard. I beat myself at L.A. Unless you have ever wanted anything in competition real, real bad, you wouldn't understand what it's like to have one Saturday afternoon not go your way. Journalists will sometimes put things in their own language, a language I sometimes don't under- 3tand, but then that's their job. My job is to put forth ll0% effort at all times for Yamaha Motor Corp., Scott USA, Shoei, Dunlop and AXO, but first for Damon Bradshaw. Being the aggres- sive competitor I am, this is not a time to change any of this. Thank you for all your applause, smiles, letters and cards I have received throughout the 1992 racing season. All of you helped me win races. Since the L.A. Supercross, I have had knee surgery which will keep me from completing the remainder of this season aboard my Yamaha. However, I will be I l0% mentally and physically ready for'93. Your continued support will be deeply appreciated. Damon Bradshaw ' Mooresville, NC As reported in the In The Wind section, Bradshau has re-signed with Yamaha lor'93 . . . Editor. Oklahoma snafu Regarding your coverage of the Oklahoma City Half Mile, in partic- ular the description of Chris Carr trying to move his motorcycle off the groove: If the man could not tell that the bike was running, he has no need to be racing. Anyone could see the back wheel spinni.rg. Y.. Carr should learn ro pay more attenrion to what is going on around him like any rookie would know how to do. Kathy Soule Jackson, MI In the heat of battle, tunnel aision often tahes ouer. As we reper1sfl, Qan said, "I leel sich about the wholc thing." Here's what Scott Parher, who struch Corr's motorcycle and was injured, said. alter.watching the inci- d,ent on videotope, "I'm not mad at him, but he d,id something stupid, and. he knows it. Eaery time I watch that tape,I see it again. He wasn't thinhing ol salety - not his, not anybod.y's. He was just thinking about getting bach in the race. I do hnow that rocing is dangerous and that things happen. I don't hold it against Chris, but it was just stupid. I'ue got to put it behind me and focus on the tash aheod. "Riders call their bikes what they want on their entry forms, but in tech inspection we clarify what they really are by the engine numbers. In this case, we didn't correct the brands in the computer." With the exception of Team Harley-Davidson's Chris Carr, no rider at the event was Harley- Davidson mounted. "Unless the engine was homologated as a Harley- Davidson or the engine numbers Kawasaki's Mike LaRocco padded his National l25cc Series points lead by storming to first overall at Millville, Minnesota's Spring Creek MX Park. Memory flogger As we continue to lose open riding areas, many enthusiasts are finding that dual sport bikes are helping to fill the void. Organized rides sponsored by clubs, some manufacturers, Cycle Nerus, the AMA, et al are doing their best to bring back that old thrill. i A new twist on an old theme was courageously introduced by California Trail Rides in the form of a nighttime dual sport ride in the rarefied air of the San Bernardino Mountains. Big Bear Lake was the start,/finish and all ' the "hooting" going on was from exhilarated riders, not owls! Although there was deep water and enough rocks to build The Great Wdl, we rode a Kawasaki KLR650 double- up without a problem or use of bail- outs. For those of us who loved night enduros during the mid-'70s, this was a real memory flogger! First timers are already making plans and improve- ments for next year. We'll be back! Our thanks to Larry Langley, for accepting the challenge of Moonlight Madness, and other groups that are working to give us the best they can of two worlds. Ron & Carol Ramlow South Pasadena, CA Buell fan I feel the need to call attention to the Buell Motor Co., a company that deserves much more praise than they seem to receive. The good folks there are always cheerful, eager, ready and willing to help with any question or problem one might have. They do so efficiently and always go that extra mile to make sure you arelatisfied. Erik Buell has put together a staff of terrific people who are real profes- sionals. When you have great motor- cycles and a dedicated group of employees with a willingness to do everything possible to assure satisfac- tion, one just couldn't ask for anything more. A big thank you to Erik, Dave, Kim, Rosanne, Tom and everyone at Buell. You have made that "perfect" motor- cycle I have always wanted. And because you care, it will always be worth every penny I spent and more. Tom Rogers Jamestown, OH Letters to the editor should be sent to: Voices, Cyclc Neos, P.O.
