Virginia Breeze's Bartlow, who did not know he was racing for second overall, moved ahead of, and cruised away from, Roswell for second overall. R.A. Racing piloted by Tim Ruhl and Dave Klassery luckily got out of the red- flag crash incident virtually unscathed, which allowed them to soldier on to fourth overall, and fourth in Heavyweight Superbike. Fifth overall, and first in Middleweight Superbike, was awarded to Doug Aiter and Scott Evans of the RustrjN'Racing team, who made a retum to WERA endurance racing after sitting out much of the 192 season. "The good weekends are just so smooth - everything went great, smooth and very, very hot (the humidity at Indy was hoiribly high)," said a tired Doug Arter. "We worked on the bike until 9:30 Friday night, we were waiting on Parts/ and didn't make it to the track until 2:30 Saturday momirig." Nicholson's Ann Arbor won .Middleweight. Production by taking sixth overall. Middleweight Production leaders Team Pearls, fourth in the overall points standings with 682.50, suffered a iimilar fate to the other top overall points leaders - they crashed early in the iace while leading their class, lost too much time making repairs, and finished 11th overall. At the start of the race, Kling and the Gold Hill Yamaha blasted out front, with tlall chasing. "It felt like old times," said Kling. "Except I got away from him (Hall) - which wasn't like old times." Indeed, Kling was much more aggressive, but still very safe, through i{ttic, which the leaders encountered after no less than six laps, than Hall. Hall hit the hay bales before the end of the first hour, picked the bike uP, rode around to rl-tech (his handlebar had touched ground, mandating an official re.inspection) and continued on his way, a lap down on Kling. At the end of the first hour, Virginia Breeze was third overall, followed by L.A. Racing and Heschimura. Force Racing was sixth, and leading Heavyweight Production. Ttie iecond hour saw the Ardight/Heschimura/R.A. induced red flagbriefly halt the event. 7we hid three bikes go down one of . the most dangerous parts of the track, and not a drop of oil was spilled. I can't believe it!" An amazd race director, Iim Sublet, said. Gold Hillheld on to the lead until the end of the third hour, when Team Suzuki re-took the lead and promptly broke. From then on in, it was clear sail- ing for Gold Hill, who were four laPs plus 35 seconds ahead of Virginia Breeze. (lT Results ENDURANCE O/A: 1. Gold Hill Pacing (Yam);2.
