sible and helped catapult Team
Australia
to first overall.
"It's been a long year, and I'm
grateful to finish the year strong
and going back-to-back is unre-
al," Hunter said. "We know there
are
other great nations that have
done more than back-to-back,
so that gives us something to
think about for next year. I am
happy and looking forward to
turn, and got swallowed up go-
ing into the split section. I was
able to
make a few passes but
connected with another rider on
the top section, and the lines just
came together. It wasn't ideal,
but I just tried to make my way
through as far as I could, and by
the time I got to third, Hunter and
Eli [Tomac] were pretty much
gone, and I was pretty spent."
Hunter Lawrence had his time
to shine as he won the best MX
Open rider award. The older Law

rence brother took over the reins
in race
two and made things
look easy against the European
heavyweights. Hunter led all
16 laps of race two and three,
taking the win every time he hit
the track. He also won the Open
qualifying race and set the fast

my way quickly into third and stayed
there for the whole moto despite get-
ting some arm pump. Then in race
three, I had to work my way through
the field from outside the top 10 into
fourth place.

(BELGIUM) 2-10 MXGP
Lucas Coenen ran with Jett Lawrence
in moto one and finished second, but
a crash in the final moto dropped him
back to 10th. "Not bad overall, but
we didn't quite get the bike like we
wanted for this fast track. I didn't want
to change too much from our base
setting because we didn't have many
sessions, but it was probably a bit
too soft, and I felt somewhat limited.
I didn't find the flow, but the speed
was still there, and I was battling with
the guys. I learned a lot from riders
who we usually don't race in GPs. It
was a bummer what happened in the
second moto, but it happens, and I'm
happy."
