Title contenders Beaubier and defending champion Josh Herrin (Warhorse HSBK Rac- ing Ducati) were mired down in fifth and 11th, respectively, and it was Fong who made the most of the starting position by skating away to a comfortable 3.3-second win over Beaubier and Herrin with Sean Dylan Kelly (Vision Wheel M4 Ecstar Suzuki) and Gagne rounding out the top five. Interesting as that race was, it was nothing compared to what was to come. Fong now led Beaubier by 13 points, meaning Beaubier would need to win both remaining races and Fong would need only to finish third or better in each to seal the title. Race two will be remembered as the one that turned the sea - son on its head. Fong, Herrin, Beaubier and the second Vision Wheel M4 Ecstar Suzuki of Richie Escalante were all within a second of each other coming into the last lap. Herrin led, Fong second, and Beaubier was doing all he could to try and find a way past to gain any ground in the points.
