chance at a win. He's now sec- ond in the championship. "I thought I had the holeshot, and I just blew the first turn," Sexton said. "Jett got under- neath me, and I was probably fourth or fifth behind Ken [Roc- zen] and just had to work my way up. Eli went down, which gave me a gift, but I felt pretty good, actually. I felt like I was gelling with the track. I'm not go- ing to lie, it's probably one of the sketchiest tracks I've ever rid- den, just with the kickers and all these weird things, and the dirt is so soft. So, I was trying not to be conservative but to be safe as well. Jett rode awesome. I reeled him in a little bit, but he's Chase Sexton lined back up for the first time since the Ironman round of AMA Pro Motocross. With a clean bill of health, the Red Bull KTM rider looked ready to go toe-to-toe for the SMX crown. Sexton started with the front group and quickly found himself battling for a podium position. "Charlotte was a good weekend overall! Every time I hit the track, I was on the board, which was my goal in practice. My start in moto one wasn't that bad, but I got shuffled back in the first couple of laps, then made a strong charge forward all the way to sixth. Bummed we only got to race one moto today." 2 COOPER WEBB 7TH 450SMX Supercross champ Cooper Webb was back on track and finished the day with a quiet seventh overall. "We came in here a little bit underpre- pared from the knee injury, and I think it showed a little bit with our speed not being quite where we wanted it to be," he said. "But we turned it around in the race and got a great start and finished seventh, which I think was about where I was today. Yeah, it was a weird day not racing the second moto, but we'll take it. We know what we need to work on. I think next weekend's race being more 'Super- cross-ee' will really suit our style." MYOWNRACE Jett Lawrence picked up right where he left off with a wire-to- wire win in the rain-shortened race. Severe weather forced the cancellation of the second motos.
