Records Broken at Bonneville Motorcycle Speed Trials T he Bonneville Motorcycle Speed Trials, part of the FIM Land Speed World Records (LSWR) discipline, wrapped up on Thursday, August 28, after a six-day event on the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah. Four FIM Land Speed World Records were achieved, but varied weather conditions pre - vented Chris Rivas from attempt- ing the FIM-accredited absolute Land Speed World Record. Among all disciplines on the FIM calendar, LSWR is arguably the most weather-dependent, with intermittent rain, unpredictable temperatures, and strong winds limiting the number of new FIM World Records set during the event. These conditions also led to the cancellation of the entire Monday program due to standing water on the 4.97-mile access road. However, four new FIM World Records, which are currently subject to official ratification, were set by three riders. Liane Langlois of Canada pi - loted her unfaired, three-cylinder 2012 JKR Powersports 2295cc Triumph Rocket 111 Roadster with a weighted sidecar to an FIM World Record of 136.331 mph (219.404km/h) over the timed kilometer. Dale Zlock, of Washington State, and his partially stream - lined, twin-cylinder 2004 Zlock Racing LCC 600cc Suzuki SV, achieved a top speed of 151.100 mph (243.172km/h) over the timed kilometer to break his own FIM World Record by an impres- sive 22.681 mph (36.501km/h). The final two FIM World Re- cords were achieved by Lisa Ci- polla, a Youth Services Librarian from Washington State, on her four-cylinder 2012 Zlock Racing LCC 600cc Kawasaki ZX6R. On Tuesday, she set a new FIM World Record with a top speed of 146.799 mph (236.251km/h) over the timed kilometer with her machine partially streamlined before returning the next day, remov - ing her bodywork and achieving an unfaired FIM World Record of 135.466 mph (217.979km/h) over the timed kilometer. CN WIND IN THE P40 Lisa Cipolla came away with two World records at the Bonneville Motorcycle Speed Trials.
