T
he last time Hungary had a Mo-
toGP round, Wayne Rainey was
World Champion, Randy Mamola
was still racing, and Eddie Lawson took
his last race win and Cagiva's first.
That was at the now Formula One-
ized Hungaroring, and the Central
European nation fell off the calendar
until this year with the new-fangled
Balaton Park venue, its 2.25 miles
so bland and with so many Mickey
Mouse chicanes, it represented Mo-
toGP's first proper go at racing on a
glorified go-kart track.
Whatever the racing venue, the
result was the same. Pole position,
Sprint race win and Sunday race
dominance for the man who is making
a mockery of the competition in 2025,
Marc Marquez.
If MotoGP was a snoozefest, thank
God for Moto2 and Moto3, the former
seeing the first victory in the category
for Colombian David Alonso in a thrill
-
ing last-lap attack, while the latter saw
Max Quiles snatch glory by 0.018 of a
second over Valentin Perrone.
