WIND IN THE P24 Suzuki Reintroduces Updated GSX-R1000R S uzuki released details of the revised 2026 GSX-R1000R superbike to celebrate 40 years of the GSX-R moniker. The model will come in two forms, a GSX- R1000R 40th Anniversary Edition and a base model GSX-R1000R. Suzuki's 1000cc machine dates back to 2000 and is the second-longest-running liter- class superbike behind Yama - ha's YZF-R1, which debuted two years before in 1998. Due to arrive in dealer show - rooms in spring 2026, the GSX-R's engine features revised injectors, cylinder heads, Suzu - ki's variable valve timing system with reduced valve overlap, finger-follower valvetrain, 2mm- larger throttle bodies at 48mm, a wider cam chain, revised cam- shafts, larger intake and exhaust valves, reworked pistons, a new crankshaft, and a thinner and longer Euro5-compliant exhaust. Compression has also been bumped from 13.2:1 to 13.8:1. The updated engine now deliv - ers a claimed 192 horsepower at 13,200 rpm and 81 lb-ft of torque at 11,000 rpm; these figures are down on the previous model's claimed 199 horsepower and 86 lb-ft at 10,800 rpm. The chassis remains un - changed in the twin-spar alumi- num design that was last updat- ed in 2017, with suspension also carried over from the old bike in the fully adjustable upside-down Showa Balance Free Front (BFF) forks and a fully adjustable rear shock. ABS-equipped brakes come from Brembo, consisting of radially mounted four-piston cali - pers and 320mm discs up front and Nissin single-piston caliper with a 220mm disc at the rear. As for electronics, it's indus - try-standard stuff, in the Bosch IMU, cornering ABS, multistage traction and wheelie control, up- and-down quickshifter, ride-by- wire throttle featuring adjustable ride and throttle modes, launch control, one-touch easy start, and a lithium-ion battery. Pricing has not yet been an - nounced. CN Suzuki is bringing back the GSX-R1000R in 2026.
