W
hen July turns into Au-
gust, moto fans know
it's time for the big-
gest amateur motocross event
anywhere. It's also known as
the world's greatest motocross
vacation: the annual Monster En
-
ergy AMA Amateur National Mo-
tocross Championship at Loretta
Lynn's Ranch in Hurricane Mills,
Tennessee. This year, more than
1500 entries competed in 35
classes, all hoping for their shot
at a National Championship.
Now in its 44th year, the
Ranch has evolved into a mas-
sive motocross festival with
many special events, including
opportunities to hang out with
top Pro Motocross Champions
like Ryan Villopoto, who led the
Yamaha Track Walk. There was
also a fishing tournament with
Malcolm Stewart, plus autograph
signings with Levi Kitchen and
Chase Sexton, various special
dinners, and a Monster Energy
Country Music Festival featuring
Loretta Lynn's granddaughter,
Emmy Russell.
And one thing that you can al

ways count on—the heat, which
reached the near century mark
for most of the week. Factor in
the humidity along with the rigor

ous track, and there's no doubt
