"It kind of just threw me off,"
Fong said about his malfunc-
tioning dashboard. "Then Josh
Herrin
got by me. I could already
see he was riding really hard
for the first two laps. He was al-
ready out of control. I'm like, 'I'm
just going to
sit here. He'll put
his pace.' I didn't know how the
race was going to go, but I knew
once lap nine or 10 rolls around
I would be pretty good. He
[Herrin] made a small mistake.
Bummer for him. I'm stoked to
get the win. Four in a row, which
is nice. I got to stay humble and
just calm. Hero to zero in this
racing world happens very fast."
Kornbau took seventh, four
seconds ahead of Beach, who fin

In a photo finish, Kelly held
off Escalante by just 0.093 of a
second to score the team's first
double podium all season. Beau

and
Gillim close behind in fifth
and sixth, respectively.
at turn one on lap three and slid
into the waiting wet grass.
In an instant, the title race
was turned upside down as
Fong—who had to do a full elec-
tronic cycle on his bike while on
the grid after the warmup lap to
get his dash working—cruised
past to retake the lead. From
there, the Californian blitzed
the field to win by a gigantic
14 seconds, moving to within
five points of Herrin with three
rounds remaining.
While Fong disappeared up
the road, a fierce five-rider scrap
unfolded behind him for second
place—ultimately decided by
just 0.702 of a second.
Kelly led most of that battle,
but teammate Escalante briefly
took control in the final lap,
These are heady days for Fong
(center), but props must go to the
Suzuki pairing of Kelly (left) and
Escalante (right), who took their first
double Suzuki podium all season.
