A
s the late, great Nicky Hayden once
famously said, "That's why we line up
on Sunday. You never know what's
going to happen."
His words rang ever true for both Josh
Herrin and Bobby Fong. For Herrin, he saw a
31-point series lead heading into VIR wiped
out with a first-turn crash on lap three of race
two, while Fong now has the best chance of
his career to clinch a MotoAmerica Super
-
bike title after two dominant wins means
he's only five points off the series lead.
Fong was in devastating form as the
series made a welcome return to VIR for
the first time since 2022, the classic 2.25-
mile venue suiting his Attack Performance
Progressive Yamaha Racing YZF-R1M to a
tee as he grabbed pole by 0.291 of a second
ahead of a determined Sean Dylan Kelly (Vi
-
sion Wheel M4 Ecstar Suzuki) and five-time
MotoAmerica Superbike Champion Cameron
Beaubier (Tytlers Cycle Racing BMW).
