ne of the most notorious
sand tracks in motocross
hosted round 15 of the FIM
Motocross World Champion-
ship for the MXGP of Flanders
at Lommel, August 3. Deep sand
and never-ending bumps create
arguably the toughest track on
the circuit as two sand special-
ists emerged with the overall
victories. Belgian native Lucas
Coenen claimed the overall in
the MXGP division, while defend-
ing MX2 champ Kay de Wolf
swept the 250cc class.

After Coenen's win in the
Saturday qualifying race, Ro

main Febvre still held the red
plate when the gates dropped
on Sunday. The Kawasaki rider
grabbed the holeshot in race
one and quickly looked to break
away from the rest of the field.
He led for 12 whole laps before
Coenen clawed his way to the
front, and one of the best battles
of the year ensued. The two title
contenders traded positions for
the final few laps before one
