Team France Wins FIM Junior
World Championship
S
ome of the top 65cc, 85cc
and 125cc amateur riders
in the world took part in this
year's FIM Junior Motocross
World Championships held at
Romagne in France, July 5-6.
Sunday's race day presented
tough conditions, with heavy
rains soaking the track and leav
-
ing a muddy, slippery surface
for the competitors. Riders from
Team France earned two gold
medals and one silver for the
overall win in the team stand
-
ings, with Team Italy in second
overall and Team Great Britain
in third. The Americans finished
fourth overall.
American Kannon Zabojnik
was the standout rider for Team
USA, as the Factory Cobra racer
won the highly contested 65cc
10-12 division. The Texas native
grabbed the early holeshot but
fell. He later regained the lead
before the race was red-flagged
due to inclement weather that
made the track nearly impass
-
able for the small bikes.
The second moto of the 65cc
division was canceled due to the
weather, leaving Zabojnik with
the overall win. Fellow American
Levi Geis (Cobra) joined Zabo
-
jnik on the podium in third.
Zabojnik's victory was the
first by an American rider in this
class since 2013, and the first
World Junior Championship for
the USA since Caden Braswell
clinched the 85cc title in 2018.
American Gauge Brown (KTM)
was sixth overall in the 85cc
class, and fellow American Mad
-
dox Temmerman (Husqvarna)
was 11th.
USA's Tristan Prueitt
(Husqvarna) and Brady Olson
(KTM) both finished outside the
top 20 in the 125cc class.
