We ran a photo of a happy local motocrosser,
Nancy Thomas, on the cover 50 years
ago after she won a 125cc Expert moto
(or finished o a Budweiser) at her home
track... One of our featured race reports
was the 125cc U.S. GP Motocross from
Mid-Ohio in Lexington. Marty Smith took the win... Scott
Brelsford's victory at the Stockton Mile aboard a Kawasaki triple
was the first time someone had ever won an AMA Expert mile on
a two-stroke... We had coverage of Canada's first 500cc MXGP,
won by Pierre Karsmakers.
We featured Randy Mamola, who we
interviewed, on the cover 40 years ago... We
had coverage of the 125, 250 and 500cc AMA
National Motocross from RedBud. Ron Lechien,
Rick Johnson and Broc Glover were the day's
winners... Mamola won the 500cc GP at Assen in the wet.
Fellow Americans Freddie Spencer and Eddie Lawson
crashed out. Spencer, however, won the 250cc class...
Brian Myerscough won the CMC Aloha Bowl Supercross,
which included defending champ Ron Turner, Jim Holley
and John DeSoto.
