had been completed, the race
was deemed official.
Tomac was the winner of
the moto by nearly 13 seconds
ahead of Hunter Lawrence, and
Jett was third, another 18 sec-
onds back of his older brother.
However,
Jett's 1-3 trumped
Tomac's 5-1, and even Hunter's
2-2, for the overall win.
"The biggest thing was not
making the mistake any bigger
from what I did off the start and
set myself further back," Jett
said. "I could see AP [Pless
-
inger] up ahead, and I figured if
I
could get to him, that would
be the best I could do. Thank-
fully, that was third place. I had
some
good lines that I was
flowing well with and using the
paddle tire in the sloppy areas.
I don't know what time we were
at when they red-flagged it, but
thankfully we were in third so
we could get it [the overall win]."
Hunter Lawrence had one of
his best days so far this season
and used a pair of seconds to
take second overall. The Honda
HRC rider battled with brother
Jett in race one after Jett stalled
the bike, and the Aussie duo
pushed the pace to the front
as they captured a 1-2 result
in the opening moto. Hunter
kept it ultra-consistent in race
two as he grabbed the holeshot
and quickly slotted into second
again, this time trailing Tomac
in the rain. He kept the number-
three machine in sight, but
deteriorating conditions threw
his race strategy for a loop.
"I was really frustrated," Hunt
-
er said. "No one knew when the
race
was going to get called or if
it was going to get called. They
gave us the halfway mark. I'm
getting pretty close to the end
of my tear-offs, there's water
getting under them, and we're
getting deep into lapped riders.
I'm trying to think of how I'm
going to catch Eli or make this
pass. That lap I was planning on
throwing my goggles on pit lane,
and I came over and they had
the red flag."
After coming up through the
pack in the first moto, Tomac's
forward momentum stalled when
he got behind his teammate
Cooper. "I was in a good spot in
some open air, and I made a big
run up to him [Cooper] and just
got stuck behind him," Tomac
said. "I needed to make a move
early and just got stuck in his
pace, and that was it."
progressively declined, which
isn't what anyone was expecting
from the defending MXGP World
Champion. "In the first moto, I had
a pretty good start, but I struggled
the first lap to get some passes
and was getting arm pump, which
caused me to drop back a bit.
The second moto was a mudfest.
Hopefully, now with the next two
weeks, we can improve a lot and
bounce back for the next part of
the season."
