Honda Takes a Wet 8 Hours of Spa Victory
F
.C.C. TSR Honda France
clinched victory in the 8
Hours of Spa Motos, as Coren-
tin Perolari and Alan Techer
triumphed in a rain-affected
race at Circuit de Spa-Francor-
champs, June 5-7.
YART Yamaha had been in
control early, despite a fall from
Marvin Fritz, and looked set for a
second straight Spa win. However,
a crash for Jason O'Halloran with
90 minutes left cost the team
nearly four minutes in the pits.
F.C.C. TSR Honda had already
been strong in the dry opening
phases, with Perolari and Techer
consistently at the front.
Heavy rain after 3 p.m. cre
-
ated some unexpected chaos.
O'Halloran briefly reclaimed the
lead after serving a 10-second
penalty for a refueling violation,
but another crash 15 minutes
later left YART's number-seven
bike badly damaged. The num
-
ber-five Honda took the lead and
held it to the flag at 8:30 p.m.
"For us, it's just unbelievable,"
said Techer. "For two years, we
have proved we are faster, but
every time we have some trou
-
bles. This winter we changed a
lot of things in the team, many
new people. In Le Mans, we had
some bad luck. We knew in this
race we had good pace in the
dry conditions, but in the wet
conditions, we were a little more
struggling than the other teams.
But the mistake from YART pro
-
vided a big result for us."
BMW Motorrad World Endur-
ance Team took second, with a
recovering YART Yamaha in third.
Yoshimura SERT Motul Suzuki
and Kawasaki Webike Trickstar
completed the top five. Tati Team
Beringer Racing placed seventh.
In Superstock, Champion-MRP-
Tecmas BMW claimed the class
win, while Team SuperMoto Rac
-
ing Yamaha secured back-to-back
Production class victories.
