Herlings, Adamo Great at German MXGP R ound 10 of the FIM Moto- cross World Championship marked the series' halfway point, as the Liqui Moly MXGP of Ger - many took place at the historic Teutschenthal circuit. Conditions were split 50/50, with rain soak - ing the track after the first motos and creating a tricky race surface for those battling at the front of the pack. Two teammates once again claimed overall victories as Jeffrey Herlings returned to the top step while Andrea Adamo won the MX2 division and took over the championship points lead. MXGP The MXGP rookie, Lucas Coenen, has been coming on strong as of late, and he once again started up front in race one. Prime conditions saw the KTM rider lead from the start while his teammate Herlings slot - ted into second. Points leader Romain Febvre started up front with the lead group but made a costly mistake and dropped back outside the top five. He rebound- ed but couldn't crack into podium territory. Herlings applied pres- sure late in the race, but at the line, Coenen claimed victory over Herlings and Calvin Vlaanderen. Febvre crossed fourth. Rains during the intermission soaked the track, and racers were greeted with much slicker conditions for the second race. Still, Coenen crossed the hole - shot line first with rivals Febvre and Herlings closely in tow. The top three stayed close for the opening half of the race before Febvre found himself stuck behind a lapper. Herlings waited patiently to make a pass and pounced on this opportunity to move to second in the run - ning order. He held on, and with two laps to go, made an aggres- sive pass to push his teammate Coenen out of the race lead. Herlings took the race win, and his 2-1 finishes earned him the overall victory, the 108th of his career. Coenen flip-flopped re - sults with Herlings and finished second overall, with Febvre tak- ing the final spot on the podium. The Kawasaki rider still leads Coenen by 36 points in the over- all standings. "When I came back in Sardinia, I was just a couple days on the bike and almost got lapped by Lucas [Coenen] and Tim [Gajser]," Herlings said. "Now, two months later, I won. So, I'm thankful for that. The second race was tough. You had to save your vision while trying to pass, and there weren't many good lines because every - one took the dry ones. But I man- aged to pass Romain and Lucas, win the race and the overall." MX2 The MX2 division is still up for grabs as the championship lead continues to change hands. Coming into Germany, Simon Laengenfelder held the red plate as he raced in front of his home country. Race one saw Sacha Coenen grab another holeshot with his teammate Andrea Adamo and qualifying winner Valerio Lata in the front pack. The two KTMs of Coenen and Adamo battled closely for the first half of the race, with Adamo sealing a pass on lap eight of 18. Coenen stayed close, and the two fin - ished only one second apart at the checkers. Behind them, points leader Laengenfelder had his hands full with Thibault Beni - stant. The German rider found a late-race charge and passed to WIND IN THE P56 Jeffrey Herlings returned to form with the overall win at the MXGP of Germany.
