Turner Tops Hangtown WMX
A
fter narrowly missing the
overall win in the opening
round of the Women's Moto-
cross (WMX) Championship the
previous week in Pala, California,
defending series champion Lach-
lan Turner of Altus Motorsports
bLU cRU Yamaha found redemp-
tion by taking a commanding 1-1
and the overall victory at round
two of the series held on May 30,
the Friday before the Hangtown
Motocross Classic in Rancho
Cordova, California. With this win,
Turner assumed the series point
lead with four rounds remaining.
After working on a few new
suspension settings during the
week, Turner looked unbeatable
in practice.
"I was feeling amazing today,"
said Turner. "The bike handled
great. I just felt so comfortable
on the bike, and it was a good
day."
SLR Honda's Mikayla Nielsen
had a rough start in the first
moto but managed to climb to
third by the end of the race. She
achieved a much better start in
the second moto, finishing be
-
hind only Turner. Her 3-2 results
earned her second overall and
marked her second podium of
the young season.
"I didn't expect anything else
other than where I finished," said
Nielsen. "This is Lachlan's home
track, and I just wanted to be in
points and feeling good going
into the next round in Colorado.
I know it's going to be a battle
with Turner swapping points and
learning new stuff, but I mean, I
wouldn't want to be doing it with
anyone else, so I felt good in that
second moto.
"The first moto was kind of a
bummer, but it could have been
worse, so I'm just happy to take
the positives."
Despite recovering from a re
-
cent surgery on a broken finger,
Quad Lock Honda rider Charli
Cannon secured third place on
the podium, marking her first of
the year on the U.S. circuit.
