M
otoGP has the ability to
conjure up the odd surprise,
but one of this magnitude
is very rare indeed.
The 2025 French MotoGP will go
down as a red-letter day in French
motorcycling, not just for the drama
that unfolded over 26 nail-biting
laps, but because it signaled the end
of a 71-year drought of local win
-
ners in the premier class. Johann
Zarco (Castrol LCR Honda) held it all
together in front of the largest week-
end attendance in the history of the
sport to claim his second MotoGP
race win, but his first at home, send-
ing the locals into raptures as they
screamed out the French national
anthem at the race's conclusion.
It was business as usual in
Moto2, as Manuel Gonzalez (Liqui
Moly Dynavolt Intact GP) took an
-
other pole and race win.
In Moto3, wonderkid Jose Antonio
Rueda (Red Bull KTM Ajo) held on
for another win to punch his title lead
out to 29 points, while in MotoE's
first round, Oscar Gutierrez (MSI Rac
-
ing Team) and Mattia Casadei (LCR
E-Team) took a win apiece.
IT'S BEEN 71 YEARS SINCE A FRENCHMAN WON THE
FRENCH MOTOGP, BUT JOHANN ZARCO FINALLY
GOT TO SING LA MARSEILLAISE WITH OVER 110,000
OF HIS COUNTRYMEN IN ONE OF THE MOST
DRAMATIC RACES IN MOTOGP HISTORY
