MICHELIN RACEWAY ROAD ATLANTA / BRASELTON, GEORGIA

though I definitely dislike this
place as well."
Herrin wasn't completely satis-
fied. "I don't want to be finishing
third, but leaving the second
race way, way better off than we
were last year makes me happy.
I want to do better and want to
get closer to Cam and Bobby, but
you've got to take what you get
sometimes and be happy with it."
Kelly was fourth, some three
seconds behind Herrin and anoth
-
er three seconds ahead of Fong's
teammate Gagne, who had his
hands full in the closing laps with
Kelly's teammate Escalante.
Escalante ended up just 0.197
of a second behind Gagne at the
finish line.
"Today being able to win with
a little gap there felt awesome,"
Beaubier said. "It seems like this
place brings good racing, good
battles. It's hard to get away from
people here in the past compared
to other tracks. So, I was pretty
happy with being able to run away
a little bit at the beginning."
Fong, who crashed the day
before, kept Beaubier honest.
He pushed into Beaubier's lead
and maintained pressure until
the end, finishing 2.3 seconds
behind after 19 laps. Fong held
a 10-second lead over Herrin.
"It's cool to get on the po
-
dium...and some points," Fong
said. "I've always done pretty
well here over the years, even
the first time I had the rear come
around. It was pretty big. So, he
caught me. I think that was on
the last lap. So, I had tried to
build up a little gap in the esses
and stuff."
Beaubier secured the hole
-
shot in drier conditions on
Sunday and quickly gapped the
field, concluding his weekend
with two victories. However, he
could never let up with Fong not
too far behind.
Mathew Scholtz
(1) made up for
his disappointing
fifth on Saturday by
winning Sunday's
Supersport race.
