C
ameron Beaubier is on the
verge of making history
after tying Josh Hayes on
the all-time AMA road racing win
list. One more win and he will
stand on top—all alone.
The Californian earned his
88th and 89th career victories
in the MotoAmerica Superbike
Championship at Michelin Race
-
way Road Atlanta. The Tytlers
Cycle Racing BMW team rider
showed his all-around expertise
by winning once in the wet and
the other in the dry.
Beaubier's dream weekend
started with an impressive
victory on Saturday in the rain,
which was also his first wet-
weather race win aboard the
factory BMW M 1000 RR.
Beaubier dominated the race,
but he faced stiff competition
along the way. Former champ
Jake Gagne stayed close behind
him throughout all 15 laps.
While Gagne and his Yamaha
YZF-R1 were faster in the early
sections of the 2.54-mile track,
Beaubier excelled in the remain
-
der, making it tough for Gagne
to close the gap for a pass.
The two riders at the front
pulled away, allowing Warhorse
HSBK Racing Ducati's Josh Her
-
rin to secure third place, finish-
ing about 12 seconds behind.
Herrin spent most of the race
riding solo. However, a mistake
on his part let Vision Wheel M4
Ecstar Suzuki's Sean Dylan Kelly
nearly catch up and challenge
the defending MotoAmerica
Superbike Champion.
