BSB Opener Ends In Tragedy
T
he opening round of the 2025
Bennetts British Superbike
Championship at Oulton Park on
May 4-5 ended in tragedy when
two racers were killed and one
sustained significant injuries in
an 11-rider chain-reaction crash
at the start of the afternoon's
Quattro Group British Supersport
race on Monday, May 5.
The organizers, Motorsport
Vision Racing (MSVR), issued a
statement revealing that Owen
Jenner and Shane Richardson
had both passed away from in
-
juries relating to the crash. After
receiving medical treatment
trackside, they were then taken
to the circuit's medical center,
where Jenner died from a cata
-
strophic head injury. Richardson
was then transferred to the
Royal Stoke University Hospital
but died prior to arrival.
Tom Tunstall was treated at
the circuit's medical center and
then was transferred to the hos
-
pital with significant back and
abdominal injuries.
Five other riders were treated
at the circuit's medical center
and released. The three other
riders in the crash were unin
-
jured.
The Motorcycle Circuit Racing
Control Board and MotorSport
Vision Racing are investigating
the full circumstances of the
incident in conjunction with the
coroner and Cheshire Constabu
-
lary.
Racing began on Sunday, May
4, with Bradley Ray winning the
first of three scheduled Super
-
bike races, one on Sunday and
two on Monday, May 5. Leon
Haslam won the second race,
but all racing was canceled after
the Supersport incident.
