rider got the best end of the deal
with the restart after initially
falling in turn one. He bounced
back with a crucial holeshot and
led the pack from the get-go.
Hampshire battled it out with
the three other front-runners and
eventually slipped back to third
while still holding title rival Seth
Hammaker at bay. The Yama
-
has of Davies and Deegan didn't
really count for points due to
the
Showdown, so Hampshire was
the highest-placing East Coast
rider. With a third place, he now
shares the red plate with Ham
-
maker.
"Absolutely
crushed that sec-
ond start; it was literally perfect,"
"It
took me a little bit to find
my flow, and right in that middle
is where I found my flow,"
Deegan said. "It was the best
I've felt in a long time. I just
locked in perfect laps and didn't
make any mistakes after I got
around Hammaker. That first
part of that race I was a little too
slow. I think I didn't sprint hard
enough, and I've just got to work
on stuff like that."
Hampshire completed the
podium on Saturday night. The
Rockstar Energy Husqvarna
points leader needed to stay out
of trouble to maintain control
of his title defense, and he
did just that. After the restart,
Deegan found himself up front
and challenging for the win. A
few wild moments deterred him
from making a pass for the lead
while simultaneously fending off
attacks from Davies behind him.
Once Davies moved to the lead,
Deegan quickly followed suit
and trailed his training partner
at the front of the field. A hard
charge at the end proved too
little too late, but Deegan still
maximized points over title rival
Julien Beaumer, who finished
outside the top 10.
