under the rules for exceeding
track limits on the last lap.
So, Oncu finally won his race
after all, Stefano was second
and Bendsneyder ended up third,
over three seconds down.
Booth-Amos fell and restarted
to finish 15th and score one point.
In the championship, we have
a Yamaha leader in Manzi, with
125 points, Bendsneyder is
second on 111, Booth-Amos 84
and Oncu fourth with 77. Masia's
big V-twin in fifth place overall
makes four different bikes in the
top five places.
WorldWCR
The second season of the
women-only WorldWCR Cham
-
pionship features 24 riders on
identical Yamaha R7s. It no
longer features 2024 champion
Ana Carrasco, but the runner-up
Maria Herrera (Klint Forward
Racing Team) is back and ready
to take the crown.
At Assen, Herrera took the race-
one win, having started from pole,
but only after Beatriz Neila (Ampi
-
to Crescent Yamaha) had strayed
onto the track's limit paint with an
overambitious pass into the final
corners. She had passed Herrera
but not in the final rankings.
To no one's surprise, Sara San
-
chez (Terra & Vita GRT Yamaha
WorldWCR Team) also finished
on the podium. Avalon Lewis
was fourth, respectably close to
a podium place on her Carl Cox
Motorsports entry.
Race two had the repeating
top three finishers, but only after
a strong fight between four rid
-
ers. Neila got her much-desired
first win in this class by just
0.173 of a second from Herrera.
Sanchez placed third again and
was only 0.423 of a second from
the win. Lewis fell on the final
corner while in fourth place and
retired from the race.
Roberta Ponziani (Klint For
-
ward Racing Team) has changed
teams this year but seems the
most effective rider behind the
big three Spanish riders and the
highly rated Lewis.
Aussie rider Tayla Relph placed
seventh, then sixth, with Ameri
-
ca's Mallory Dobbs finishing 15th
in race one and 13th in race two.
Another American rider, Sonya
Lloyd (Team Trasimeno), was
18th and then 20th at Assen.
On top of the early table, Neila
and Herrera share 45 points,
with Sanchez on 32.
